Remains of the Roman aqueduct that used to carry water from the springs of the Louros river to the ancient city of Nicopolis. A city in Epirus territory - Greece built by the first Roman Emperor, Octavius.
The total length of the aqueduct was 50km long and consisted of bricklayer arches, built channels laid on earth and carved tunnels.
The name Nicopolis in Greek means "The city of victory" in English and was built in commemoration of the victory of Octavian in 31 BC over Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium nearby. Nicopolis soon became the capital and a major economic center of the entire region gathering the whole Greek population of the surrounding towns and villages that had been decadent through centuries of wars. You may find more information about Nicopolis on Wikipedia.
